Sportsbook & Odds: PointsBet AU wins
- Bet365 AU – 4/5
- PointsBet AU – 5/5
- Ladbrokes AU – 3/5
Bet365 and Ladbrokes may offer a wider array of sports to bet on, but PointsBet has a unique feature in the form of their highly popular spread betting. It gives them as many as 300+ markets per match, which easily beats any other bookmaker in Australia. During the NBA and NFL seasons, I found at least 100 markets exclusive to PointsBet for every affair, both in the regular season and playoffs.
I could thus place bets on the time of the first goal/corner/throw in soccer, the time of the first try in rugby, the time of the team going beyond 10 or 20 points in AFL, and the time of the first 3-pointer or free throw to be made in basketball, etc. If you are unaware of how spread betting works, I will try to explain it in a short description below. PointsBet (bookmaker) offer a spread according to which you make bets. The difference from other (more common approach) bookies is that you don’t have fixed odds to select one of two outcomes. The amount of your profit or loss is determined by the margin of your bet’s win or loss.
For example, you backed Sydney to beat Wellington Phoenix in a -1.0 handicap. The stake is $5. In the case of Sydney’s 3-0 victory, you win $10. It would break down like this: $5 (stake) * (3 (the margin of the win – 1.0 (the line offered by the bookie)). Obviously, the variation is much bigger for sports such as basketball or rugby because of the higher number of points.
I have concluded that no bookmaker can compare their markets to PointsBet. Speaking of odds, both Bet365 and Ladbrokes are around industry standard (5% house edge). Based on our experience, Bet365 AU has much more favourable odds for the most popular sports and competitions. I thus compared the odds at Bet365 and Ladbrokes for the Copa America semi-final between Chile and Peru to find out that I had more profitable betting with Bet365 AU. They did have slightly weaker odds for Chile’s victory (1.85 to Ladbrokes’ 1.91). Nonetheless, Peruvians were set at 4.50 at Ladbrokes and 4.75 at Bet365. Also, the draw was paid at a better price with Bet365 AU.
Each bookie has “Best Odds Guaranteed” for selected horse races. You will thus hardly find a better bookmaker for horse racing/greyhounds in Australia than these three.
Additional Features: Who Wins?
Live Stream: PoinstBet Far Behind without this Service. Bet365 Wins
- Bet365 AU – 5/5
- PointsBet AU – 1/5
- Ladbrokes AU – 4/5
PoinstBet has earned the best grade in the section above, but they stand way behind Bet365 and Ladbrokes regarding live streaming. They do not have this feature available at all, which is a massive downside when I compare them to industry leaders in Australia.
The story is completely opposite with Bet365 and Ladbrokes, among bookmakers with the best live streaming service. Both sites offer a broad range of sports and events available. I would, however, give Bet365 a slight advantage in terms of the bigger list of sports. I generally found more options with them, so they deserved the highest grade for this parameter. You only have to own a funded account to access this service and watch the most popular sports events at Bet365 and Ladbrokes. You can have as little as $0.01 on the account and have the chance to take advantage of this significant perk. I did not experience significant delays or leggings with these two sites.
To use the Bet365 Live Streaming service, you must be logged in, have a funded account, or have placed a bet in the last 24 hours.
Under Australian law, we are required to inform you that Live Streaming on bet365 is exempt from Parts 3 and 4 of the Broadcasting Services
Mobile Special offer: Bet365 and Ladbrokes Dominant, Ladbrokes Wins
- Bet365 AU – 5/5
- PointsBet AU – 3/5
- Ladbrokes AU – 5/5
All three bookies have functional mobile apps on iOS and Android devices. I have used each of them and generally had a pleasant experience.
Bet365 AU app left the biggest impression on us, though. They have a finely designed interface, which is hard to leave once you get used to green and yellow colours. It is just perfectly suited for both beginners and experienced punters. Live streaming services are probably the biggest selling points for their app. Most of what is written for the Bet365 AU app works pretty much the same for Ladbrokes’. Everything you can do on their desktop page is accessible via the app. I have to highlight their horse racing markets and live-streaming events. I smoothly went through the pages and experienced zero trouble in the process. As PointsBet does not offer live streaming services, their app offer is instantly poorer than the one we found with Bet365 and Ladbrokes. However, those who find the aforementioned spread betting entertaining will love that their app works just about right on all devices.
Final Thoughts: Bet365 Wins
Ladbrokes & Pointsbet as Worthy Competitors
Overall, I believe that bet365 wins but the difference is pretty small. To be honest, Ladbrokes and Poitnsbet are two of the Top Australian Sportsbooks and they are definitely good choices. So, even if you do not choose bet365, you won’t be disappointed by Ladbrokes or Pointsbet.
